Making Time for You
As women, we often put everyone else’s needs in front of our own. We all know that we need to make time for us but sometimes we feel so helpless to actually make this happen with everything on our plate.
Colibri Life has pulled together a few life tricks to help you make time for yourself.
Learn to say ‘No’.
This is one of the most effective, yet also one of the hardest ways to find time. The more you say ‘no’, the less you have on your plate and the more opportunity you have to make time for you. But saying ‘no’ can be challenging. Instead of saying ‘yes’ right away, change your language to “I’ll think about it.” Then let the requester follow-up (unless it’s something you are excited to take on!
Put joy first.
Every day, add one activity that brings you joy to the top of your list. Schedule your joy until it becomes a habit in your life.
Figure out your priorities.
Life is short and your time is important. Create a list of no more than 3 things to accomplish during your day that are truly important. Spend time with people that know and stick to their priorities to reinforce your lack of ‘busyness’.
Put your guilt aside.
Trust me on this one. You serve everyone in your life much better when you have time to yourself and have the ability to breathe. Give yourself permission to enjoy your time – you don’t have to ‘earn’ time off.
Teach your kids that you have your own goals, needs and interests.
You can still be there for them when they need you but it is important to show them that 1) you, like them, have your passions that you want to pursue and they are equally as important as theirs 2) they need to be respectful and aware people in life.
Forgive yourself if you don’t get it right the first time around.
Society puts lot of pressure on us to over-work, over-parent, over-schedule. This mentality of never enough is very powerful (and very destructive) but you can step outside of its grasp.
Pick one of these strategies and try it this week.
Try something different.
See what works.
